Menisa is a residential neighbourhood in the south east of Edmonton. It is located in the Knottwood area of Mill Woods. The name derives from the Cree word for “berries”.

The community is represented by the Knottwood Community League. The league has a strong history of providing valuable programs for its members. The league maintains a community hall and outdoor rink. The hall is located at 445 Knottwood Road W.

Menisa is bounded to the north by Mill Woods Road, to the east by 66 Street, on the west at 80 Street, and to the south by Anthony Henday Drive.

Residential Development

Residential construction in Menisa started in 1976 and was close to being completed by 1980. Most of the residential homes in Menisa (83%) are detached single-family dwellings. Most of the remaining (14%) residential units are townhouses. The majority (70%) of the dwellings in the community are owner occupied.


Menisa had a population of 2,544 living in 919 dweliings according to the City of Edmonton’s 2012 municipal census, a 5.3% decrease from its 2009 population of 2,685. The land area measures 0.89 km2 (0.34 square miles), making its population density of 2,584 people/km2 in 2012.

Shopping and Services

Menisa benefits from having its own shopping centre named Menisa Shopping Centre. The neighbourhood is also close to the Mill Woods Town Centre, further enjoying access to the town centre mall located to the north of Menisa along 66 Street.
The Edmonton Police Service’s South East Division Station and the Grey Nuns Community Hospital are slightly further north and located in the neighbourhood of Tawa.
