Pollard Meadows is in the Mill Woods area of south Edmonton and is a residential neighbourhood. It forms part of the Mill Woods community of Southwood. Pollard Meadows is represented by the Southwood Community League, that also represents Crawford Plains and Daly Grove. The community league started taking shape in March 1990 when 49 residents attended a meeting to address their frustration of minimal recreational facilities and programs in the area. The league maintains a community hall and ice rink. The community hall and facilities are located at 18 Avenue and 37 Street.

Demographics

The population of Pollard was recorded to be 4,576 living in 1,709 dwellings in the City of Edmonton’s 2012 municipal census. This was 2.1% increase from its 2009 population of 4,480. The land area of 1.05 km2 (0.41 miles2), making its population density of 4,538.1 people/km2 in 2012.

Residential Development

In a federal census carried out in 2001, development of this neighbourhood started in the 1970s, when close to one out of three (33.7%) of the residential units were built. Approximately half the homes (45.5%) were built in the 1980s. Most of the remaining dwellings were constructed in the decade proceeding. According to maps.edmonton.ca, residential development in Pollard Meadows is not 100% complete.

In the City of Edmonton’s municipal census, the community has a mix of housing types. The majority (45%) are single-family house, rental apartments count for approximately one in four (26%) and row houses account for around one in five (22%) residential units. The remaining category are duplexes that are recorded at 7% of total residential units in Pollard Meadows. Owner occupied homes account for around three out of five residences (61%) while the remaining residential homes are rented

Schooling

Out of the three schools in the community, two are operated by the Edmonton Public School and are Pollard Meadows Elementary School and T.D. Baker Junior High School. The remaining school is named Holy Family Junior High School and is operated by the Edmonton Catholic School System.

Locations & Shopping

The residents of Pollard Meadows have easy access to Mill Woods Town Centre shopping centre, which is in the north west of Mill Woods Town Centre. The area will also be serviced by the LRT, that is set to open in the Summer of this year.

The boundaries that lie in Pollard Meadows are 50 Street to the west, the north is anchored by 23 Avenue, and to the south and east is Mill Woods Road
