Richfield is in the Millbourne are of Mill Woods and is a residential neighbourhood. It lies in the south east of Edmonton. Bounded by 91 Street to the west, 34 Avenue to the south, and the remaining sides are bounded by Mill Woods Road. It is represented by the Leefield Community League. This community league is located at 79 Street and 36 Avenue. The league maintains a community league and outdoor rink and was established in October 1973.

Demographics

The 2012 City of Edmonton municipal census had a population measured at 3,299 living in 1,164 dwellings in Richfield. This was 1.4% lower than its 2009 population recorded at 3,346. The land area measures 0.94 km2 (0.36 square miles), having a population density of 3,509.6 people/km2 in 2012.

Residential Development

Most of the residential construction in Richfield occurred in the 1970s according to the 2001 federal census. It has been stated in this report that around three out of four (75.8%) of residences were constructed in this period. Just over one in ten (10.8%) were built in the 1960s, and exactly one in ten (10.0%) were developed in the 1980s.

Most of the residences in Richfield are townhouses, according to the 2005 municipal census. They account for just under half (45%) of all the residential units in the neighbourhood. The next most common style and roughly two out of five (41%) of dwellings are single-family homes. It has been stated that there is an even split for the remainder of homes, being duplexes (7%) and rented apartments (7%). There is also a close split between owner occupied (51%) and rented (41%) accommodations in the area.

Population

Approximately four out of ten (41%) of residents have lived at the same address for more than five years according to the 2005 municipal census, making the community’s population stable. In the same census, one in five (19.3%) of the residents had moved in the previous 12 months and another one in five (21.9%) had moved between one and three years.

Schooling

The Edmonton Public School System operates the Grace Martin Elementary School located in the community. The second school, St Elizabeth Catholic school operated by the Edmonton Catholic School System is also in Richfield.
